DEBT
"Bills are part of life and sometimes they cannot be paid as soon as demanded.
If they are ignored, or if they cannot be dealt with straightaway due to unforeseen circumstances, these unpaid bills can pile up and you may lose control of the situation.
Such a situation can easily spiral: your creditors can claim the sums due to them and you will need to plan your affairs and prioritise matters .
You may have to deal with creditors issuing court proceedings or bailiffs knocking on the door. Some local authorities enforce Council Tax arrears by bankruptcy and possession proceedings.
Some debts such as rent or mortgage arrears could result in your losing your home.
There are even situations where you are held to be liable for debts which are not your responsibility. You might not be the actual debtor (the person who owes the money), or the contract might be unfair, or unenforceable.
We can advise you on your rights :
- Are you really liable for that debt?
- Are the terms of the contract fair?
- Do you really have to let the bailiffs in? Do you have to put up with calls at midnight?
- How can you negotiate with your debtors and agree a realistic payment plan?
- Is bankruptcy an option to consider?
- How can you protect yourself and your family from eviction or repossession of your home?
We can advise you on whether your debt is fair and/or enforceable. We can help you agree the amount of debts you owe then we can help you to make formal and sensible arrangements with your creditors. This might be by way of an administration order (if under £5000), an individual voluntary arrangement, or in serious cases, bankruptcy.
If you are threatened with eviction, or if your home is threatened with repossession, then we can advise you and represent you in any Court proceedings.
Let us help you find a way through these stressful and sometimes distressing circumstances. We can provide you with expert advice so you are sure of your rights and to help you protect yourself.
